Youth Program Coordinator
Kate Bailly is the Youth Program Coordinator at Monsoon. She was born in South Korea but raised in Des Moines and identifies as Korean American. In 2021 Kate graduated from Iowa State University with a B.A. in Psychology and Financial Counseling. Prior to coming to Monsoon, she worked directly with youth students and clients at a non-profit based in Ames. There, she focused on education, advocacy, and community outreach to broaden her understanding of gender-based violence. In this position, she hopes to empower and encourage growth in AAPI students. Part-time Youth Program Coordinator
Boey Lu is a Youth Program Associate at Monsoon Asians & Pacific Islanders in Solitary. He was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa within the Lao and Taidam communities and identifies as Southeast Asian-American. Boey has been working in the entrepreneurship space for 7 years running his own business ventures. In this position of a youth program associate, Boey would love to help inspire the youth with his community building, marketing and leadership skills for the youth to carry on into their own futures. Youth Peer-to-Peer Advocate & Outreach High School Interns
Angelina Dang is a Sophomore at Roosevelt High School. She is involved in different clubs and organizations at Roosevelt High School, including a non-profit organization helping improve the education system. She is passionate about making education inclusive and accommodating to people’s intersectionality. Angelina is a Vietnamese immigrant and speaks fluent Vietnamese. Drake Luong is a Junior at Valley High School. He is involved in various clubs and organizations that are centered around helping out his local community. He was born and raised in Des Moines, IA and is a part of the Tai Dam and Vietnamese community. He is currently on the path of learning and becoming fluent in Thai and Tai Dam. Hlaw Meh is a Karenni-American Sophomore at Roosevelt High School. She is involved in the music program at her school such as the youth gospel choir and is the co-founder of the AAPI club. She is interested and passionate about social justice, racial and gender issues. In her free time, she enjoys reading, baking, skating, and hanging out with friends. Janna Noori is a Sophomore at Roosevelt High School and Central Academy. She is passionate about racial equality, women’s rights and gender equality. She is the oldest sibling and takes care of her 2 younger sisters. She also takes taekwondo classes. She enjoys dancing, spending time with friends, writing stories, and listening to music. Olivia Tolpingrud is a Sophomore at Roosevelt High School. She is involved in a variety of athletic and creative extracurriculars. She has a passion for being involved in the community and using creative skills to do so.
